A beloved destination for ski lovers, Austria is a country located in Central Europe made out of nine federal states. Around 32% of Austria finds itself at altitudes under 500 meters, the rest of the terrain being highly mountainous, thanks to the Alps. The main cities travelers love to visit in Austria are Vienna (the capital), Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Graz. Have a look below to discover Austria travel costs in these popular travel destinations.

Graz
This medieval old town is the capital city of Styria, a province located in the south of Austria. In Graz, one can take a funicular to Schlossberg (or the town hill) and visit an old clock tower, the Uhrturm. Despite the historical setting, across the River Mur, travelers can feast their eyes with contemporary art at the Kunsthaus Graz.

Innsbruck
Located on the Inn River, Innsbruck was the host of the 1976 Winter Olympics. And for a good reason, too. Like with much of Austria, the city is picturesquely set against the mountains and filled with street cafes and surrounding areas that look like something out of the Heidi movie. As the Olympic title would indicate, the city is a good starting point to hit the slopes, but there is much more to it. The historic district has a cobblestone feel that you’ve come to expect from the Alps. In addition to the setting, you can tour historic sites such as the tomb of Emperor Maximilian I.

Salzburg
The birthplace of the famous Mozart and the story from The Sound of Music, Salzburg is a city located at Austria’s border with Germany. It is like Vienna without all the hustle and bustle. Crossed by the Salzach River, Salzburg is divided by it in two: the Old City (Altstadt) on the left bank, and the New City (Neustadt) on the right one.
A stroll through the shopping district can leave you breathless and, occasionally, penniless, but it’s worth it. Salzburg is a town where you can drink monks’ beers, watch an opera performance or just walk through exquisite rose gardens. Unfortunately, when it comes to being costly, it gives Vienna a true run for its money.

Vienna
Named the most liveable city in the world, Vienna is Austria’s capital city. It is the home of the waltz, the Habsburg palaces, and a place with a ridiculous amount of history. Walk on the cobblestone streets of downtown Vienna for an evening and you can almost hear famous composers at work. In fact, many of the walking areas are lined with small orchestral ensembles playing their way through the night. Elbowing in on their act, of course, are those rare performers who dress in a period piece and then stand in one place for what seems to be endless time. Buddhist monks would have been envious if they had believed in jealousy.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Vienna’s travel costs are higher. However, with a bit of planning, you could find a budget hostel and affordable restaurants. The attractions are kind of expensive, but there’s plenty of cheap beer to drown your sorrow if you have any regrets.
