Bagnols en Forêt restaurants
Prepare to embark on a culinary journey in Bagnols-en-Forêt, where Provençal flavors take center stage and tantalize your taste buds. The village boasts a range of delightful restaurants and eateries, each offering its own unique culinary experience. Have a look below for some of our favorites:
Le Bistrot
In the heart of the village center, Le Bistrot Bagnols-en-Forêt awaits with a cozy ambiance and delectable offerings. Indulge in their delicious Ravioles aux Truffes, a dish that perfectly combines the delicate flavors of truffles and homemade pasta. The attention to detail and presentation of each dish at Le Bistrot is truly remarkable, as the chef’s inspiration shines through on every plate. Be sure to save room for their irresistible Café Gourmand, a delightful combination of miniature desserts and a cup of perfectly brewed coffee.
En Face
For another memorable dining experience, make your way to the charming brasserie En Face. We love going here for the mouthwatering magret de canard, a succulent duck breast cooked to perfection, and the Pizza aux Truffes, a heavenly creation topped with aromatic truffle. The skilled chefs at En Face bring together traditional Provençal flavors with a bit of innovation, resulting in dishes that will leave you craving more.
In December, En Face is beautifully decorated and even has a mailbox for Santa Claus outside. The kids of Bagnols en Foret post their letters and, around Christmas time, the brasserie invites them over with their parents to receive their gifts from Père Noël and drink some hot cocoa together.
L’Envie
L’Envie is another culinary gem that shouldn’t be missed. Their menu features a delightful selection of meat and fish dishes, each prepared with care and precision, catering to every palate. Before diving into the main course, consider starting your meal with their tantalizing charcuterie platter, featuring a selection of artisanal cured meats from Corsica. However, beware that the portion sizes at L’Envie are known to be quite substantial, so pace yourself accordingly.
I am a huge fan of magret de canard and I love how it’s cooked at En Face, though I prefer the side that goes with it from Le Bistrot. The one from L’Envie is also amazing but it’s just too much (huge duck breast covered in sauce, sauteed vegetables, and salad on one plate and a lot of French fries in a separate bowl). l’m rarely that hungry and I don’t like wasting food, otherwise it’s wow!
If you find yourself venturing just outside the village, two other culinary delights await you: Paolo Pizza and La Cave aux Burgers.
Paolo Pizza
Paolo Pizza, a true pizza lover’s paradise, is a must-try! Their pizzas are crafted with expertise and passion, surpassing expectations and earning them a reputation that extends well beyond the village. Make sure to call in the afternoon to reserve your dough in advance for the evening, as Paolo Pizza is always in high demand.
La Cave aux Burgers
And last but definitely not least, for a delectable burger experience, head over to La Cave aux Burgers. Their mouthwatering creations will satisfy even the most discerning burger enthusiasts. From classic beef patties to creative additions, each burger is crafted with care and served with a side of scrumptious crispy fries. Keep an eye out for their special burger additions, which change every one or two weeks, offering a new and exciting taste adventure! (We’ve tried almost all the special burgers and the classics and they’re the best. Whenever we eat burgers someplace else while we’re traveling, I feel like I’m cheating on La Cave aux Burgers.)
Cooking on vacation?
If you can and want to cook like a local at your accommodation, you can buy fresh produce from the Marché de Bagnols-en-Forêt on Boulevard du Rayol every Wednesday and Saturday morning or go for a drive to Les Halles de la Plaine.
Fresh bread, pastry products, and cakes are made in small quantities all day long at the boulangerie Fleur de Lotus. Fresh bread is also available at our local supermarket, Carrefour Contact, which is excellently stocked for a small village shop. I recommend paying a visit to their butcher who will help you choose the best meat, charcuterie products, and cheeses. (And don’t miss out on the tomme and brie aux truffes!)
And last but not least, every Tuesday morning you’ll find on Carrefour’s parking lot the fish and seafood stand of the Poissonnerie R’Maree.
The Carrefour Bagnols en Foret is very involved in community life and every year they go really big on Halloween decorations. They also organize a Halloween costume competition and a flash mob. And they don’t disappoint on Christmas either: they hold a yearly ugly Christmas sweaters competition!
In Bagnols-en-Forêt, dining is not just about the food — it’s an experience that embraces the essence of Provençal traditions. The flavors are rooted in time-honored recipes, passed down through generations, allowing visitors to savor the authentic tastes of the region.
