2025 holidays for Melbourne travelers

If you’re Melbourne travelers who are constantly seeking new adventures, chances are you’re feeling the lockdown cabin fever more than most. And while travel isn’t an option right now, there’s nothing to stop you from planning your dream holiday for 2022.

With that in mind, here are just a few recommended destinations to inspire your travel fantasies and satisfy your wanderlust.

Fiji, a dream holiday destination for Melbourne travelers

1. Fiji

If you’re looking for a traditional holiday destination featuring sun, sea, and scenery, it’s hard to go wrong with Fiji. This archipelago is endowed with so much turquoise water, white sandy beaches, jungle rivers, and indigenous culture that it seems almost unjust. If you’re searching for a decadent beach, a family getaway, or a backpacker trip, the Fiji Islands have everything for Melbourne travelers!

With at least two direct flights departing from Melbourne Airport every day, it’s also easily accessible and well worth the trip.

If you’re satisfied just to kick back on a sun lounger and spend some time soaking up the rays, no one would blame you of course. But if you’re looking for something a little more active, the surrounding islands are easy to get to and offer plenty of exciting activities, including kayaking, snorkeling, and deep-sea diving.

Tokyo is a great destination for Melbourne travelers

2. Tokyo

If seaside resorts aren’t your cup of tea, Tokyo contains all the hustle and bustle you could ask for from a city break.

Being at the forefront of technology and innovation, the city is filled with must-see hotspots for nerds and techies. The district of Akihabara (also known as Akiba) is widely recognised for its electronics stores, as well as a number of shops dedicated to anime and manga.

Tokyo also has a rich and beautiful history steeped in culture and tradition. For a classic Tokyo tourist experience, visitors can check out any number of historical museums. (A local tip, most museums close on Mondays, so it’s best to check ahead before visiting. )

Tourists looking for a more traditional experience can also visit the Sensoji Buddhist temple. It’s the oldest and most culturally significant in Tokyo, and is as colourful and captivating as it is historical.

Tokyo offers its visitors a seemingly unlimited choice of shopping, entertainment, culture, and dining. And, in contrast to the common perception, Tokyo also offers a number of attractive green spaces in the city center and within relatively short train rides in the outskirts.

With everything that it has to offer, Tokyo will be the perfect destination for most Melbourne travelers.

Melbourne travelers who wish to stay closer to home should try Cairns

3. Melbourne travel adventures closer to home

If you aren’t feeling quite so adventurous yet, there are plenty of domestic destinations to rival the two above, and that are easy to get to from Melbourne airport.

A direct flight to Cairns will take a little over three hours, and the city has a number of stunning features – Josephine Falls, Crystal Cascades, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Wet Tropics World Heritage Rainforest are perfect visiting spots for any nature lover. Even so, Melbourne travelers shouldn’t miss out on the great things to do in and around town. You’ll find nice cafes, busy markets, and plenty of beaches nearby. Relax by the swimming pool or spend your days enjoying the tropical oasis.

Or alternatively, the village of Palm Cove combines picture-postcard views of bright sandy beaches covered in palm trees with a lively seaside town that’s home to great shopping opportunities, restaurants, spas, and more.

(It’s also worth mentioning that Palm Cove is a popular wedding destination too. It’s a useful thing to know for Melbourne travelers who are thinking of making any other plans for 2022.)

Extra travel tip

If you’re flying out from Melbourne Australia for a family holiday and want to save the hassle of cramming luggage and kids into a taxi or onto a bus (and who doesn’t?), it may be simpler to drive to the airport yourself. Pre-book your parking with looking4.com to save time, money, and stress. Then, when you get there, simply stroll on through to one of the airport walk-in lounges and get ready to enjoy your holiday!
