If you’re planning to visit New England, I suggest you do it in the autumn season. Travelers from all over the world come to New England each year to admire the fall foliage. From late August to the month of October, nature changes its colors, and the leaves put on a show to enchant the eye of any photographer. So it comes as no surprise that the autumn season is the busiest one in New England.
Let’s start with a few details for those who aren’t sure where is New England. Comprising the states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, New England is a northeastern region of the United States. Home to many and varied landscapes, New England has both mountains and coastline, with forests and vineyards in-between. And each of the six states offers a unique view when you visit New England.
Travelers can experience all four seasons in New England. In summer, the coastline’s beaches are a warm paradise. And in winter, the mountains are home to some of the best skiing destinations in the United States. However, the autumn season, with its scenic forest walks, seems to be a favorite. And my top destination to visit New England is Rhode Island. Look below to find out why!

Rhode Island in the autumn season
The smallest state in the United States, Rhode Island is only around 77 kilometers long and 60 kilometers wide. Despite its size, this state is home to a large part of New England’s coast.
One of the cities you should visit in Rhode Island is Providence, the state’s capital. Home to Brown University, one of the top New England universities, Providence has a lot to offer. For example, you could go on the Mile of History, on Benefit Street, to admire beautiful 18th-century houses. Go inside some of the small and charming little shops or head downtown to one of Providence’s large shopping malls.
Foodies should head out to experience fine dining in one of the restaurants in Federal Hill. There are many lovely Italian restaurants to try in this neighborhood of Providence.
Besides Providence, you could also head out to Newport when you visit New England.
Whether you go to Rhode Island or another state when you visit New England during the autumn season, you won’t leave disappointed. Go on a trip to see the beauty of the changing autumn colors and you’ll soon see why New England is a favorite destination with travelers this autumn season.
