Fontana del Nettuno
Fontana del Nettuno is located in Piazza Navona, on the opposite side of Fontana del Moro. In the past, it was known as Fontana dei Calderari. That is because it was near a small alley stuffed with the blacksmith workshops, who also made pots, pans, and other metal objects.

Fontana della Barcaccia
In the center of Piazza di Spagna, just below the Spanish Steps, there is the beautiful Fontana della Barcaccia. Unlike other fountains in Rome, La Barcaccia has water gently pouring out of it, because the water pressure in this area was too low at the time to do it otherwise.
The ingenious Fontana della Barcaccia was designed by the Berninis (father and son) at the order of Pope Urban VIII.

Fontana della Tartarughe
Fontana della Tartarughe was designed by Giacomo della Porta, between 1581 and 1584, for the Mattei family. Later on, another sculptor, who some say was Bernini, added the turtles that try to reach the fountain. And that’s how this fountain got its name.

Probably the second most famous fountain in Rome, after Fontana di Trevi, the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi stands tall in the center of Piazza Navona. Designed by Bernini, it represents the rivers Gange (Asia), Danube (Europe), Rio dela Plata (Americas), and the Nile (Africa) around an obelisk engraved with the names of emperors Domitian, Titus, and Vespasian.

Fontana di Santa Maria in Trastevere
Located in Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere, this fountain is placed right in front of the Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere. Thought to be the oldest fountain in Rome, Fontana di Santa Maria in Trastevere is a gathering spot for both locals and travelers in the evenings. Musicians also play their guitars on the fountain’s steps.

Fontana di Trevi
Last, but certainly not least, there is Fontana di Trevi, a must-see for all travelers coming to Rome.
Raised in 1732 by Nicola Salvi, Fontana di Trevi marks the end of the Acqua Vergine aqueduct. It became famous thanks to the many films it was featured in, the most memorable one being La Dolce Vita, where Anita Ekberg bathes in Fontana di Trevi, and the movie Three Coins in a Fountain, which started the tradition of throwing a coin in Fontana di Trevi to return to the Eternal City.
