Dresslily review: my honest opinion on Dresslily dresses

I have been a long-time affiliate partner of Dresslily but I hadn’t yet gotten around to promoting the company’s products on the blog. Despite that, those readers who follow me on Twitter have had multiple chances to take advantage of Dresslily coupon codes and limited-time offers.

When Dresslily announced a campaign to encourage bloggers to review their products, I applied, and here I am, ready to talk to you about two long dresses I chose for this occasion.

Continue reading this Dresslily review to discover who is Dresslily, where is Dresslily located, and if the company is legit or if the rumors about Dressslily scams are true. I will also take you through all the positive and negative aspects of these dresses, as well!

Who is Dresslily?

who is dresslily

Dresslily is a clothing and accessories company launched in 2012. Over the last decade, they have been promoting inclusive fashion for women of all sizes at affordable prices. Dresslily does not believe in beauty standards and seeks to promote uniqueness and nurture self-confidence.

Dresslily’s mission is to make fashion available for all shapes and sizes.

This inclusive clothing company makes deliveries worldwide to over 100 countries and it offers free shipping to orders over $59 USD. Clients benefit from 30-day returns, and a warranty is available for specific products.

Where is Dresslily located?

Dresslily is located in Asia, which helps with reducing costs associated with the site and manufacturing process. Now that you know where is Dresslily headquarters, you can understand why it can afford to offer clients such inexpensive costs for clothing.

Where Dresslily is based isn’t that important unless you make it a point to exclusively shop locally. Because anyone who looks for inexpensive clothes knows they’ll end up buying clothes from China or other Asian countries, anyway.

Is Dresslily legit?

Is Dresslily legit

From my personal experience with this company, I can honestly say that there is no Dresslily scam and that the Dresslily website is legit. If there were any Dresslily scams out there, I doubt that this company would still have almost 750,000 followers on Instagram and over 11,000,000 followers on Facebook that like and engage with their content.

Who is Dresslily for?

The majority of Dresslily’s clientele is formed by strong, hardworking women who are searching for a wide choice of fits, cuts, and patterns that look good on their bodies, highlight their great features, and make them feel good in their skin. They don’t want to change their body for fashion, they want fashion catered to their body types.

Why I chose to try Dresslily dresses

With age, the pandemic restrictions, and some other events that made me feel really low and really demotivated to get out of bed lots of times, my body has changed a lot. And while my husband is more than happy with how I look now and I do like some of its new curves, shopping is a lot more difficult.

I’ve always struggled with shopping in general because it’s never been easy to find something that fits me well. I am tall so whatever is long enough to cover my legs or arms properly is then way too large for the rest of my body. That’s happening to me even now when I put on a lot of weight.

For example, yesterday I went to Decathlon and all the long-cut trekking pants that were long enough for me were potato sacks around my waist and there was no way to put on a belt or tighten them with their adjustable straps/strings to make them look good. I ended up buying two pairs of pants from the men’s aisle to find something long enough that was also tighter around the waist. Oh, and to add insult to injury, the same models of pants cut for men were significantly cheaper than those in the women’s aisle.

So I was eager to try clothing from a company that promotes body inclusivity and aims to provide products that fit all bodies well. I ended up choosing two long dresses by Dresslily:

  • An A-line solid-color party dress with a plunging neckline
  • A rainbow ombre dress with adjustable shoulder straps.

Further down below, you will find my Dresslily reviews for both of these maxi dresses.

Dresslily dresses shipping and delivery

The delivery was pretty fast and the two Dresslily dresses were packed individually before being packed in the same parcel. I liked two small touches:

  • A ribbon was placed around the packaging of the A-line dress
  • The following note was added next to the products:

    “Dear Dresslily customer,
We are very thankful for your purchase and we hope that you enjoy each product of your order.
Your satisfaction with our products is important for[sic!] us. So if you find any problem with your order, please feel free to contact our Customer Support Center at support[at]dressLily[dot]com.
Also, we have great news! This year is super special to Dresslily, as we are heading towards our 10th Anniversary! So we are getting ready to celebrate it big! With huge sales, activities, and new products arrivals!”

On the back, the note had several coupon codes depending on the amount purchased, info about their mobile app, and social media handles.

Dresslily Review: A-line party dress

Dresslily review #1: A-line solid color party dress with a plunging neckline

The full name on Dreslily’s website is Party Dress Solid Color Belted Plunging Neck Surplice Slit Elegant A Line Maxi Prom Dress.

I love wearing long dresses, they make me feel like a princess. Especially if the material is full enough to allow for a nice quality draping around the waist. I liked the blue-gray color I saw in the pictures, so I immediately fell in love with this online dress.

After it arrived, I was surprised to see that the color was different. On the website, it said light blue, but it wasn’t really what was pictured there. It’s still a lovely shade but I was hoping for a light blue-gray instead of a baby blue.

Then, I put it on, and it was long enough, though not as long as pictured because not everybody is as tall as me.

What I found disappointing was that it had less material than in the photo, because the draping wasn’t as beautiful. Now, I selected the right size after measuring, I followed their table and I expected the amount of material to be adjusted to the size as it normally happens. But I ended up with a less full skirt to the dress, forcing the side slits to look different. I also felt that there was less material used for the ribbon belt – it just isn’t as wide, it’s kind of half of what’s pictured.

Wearing the dress feels pretty good, though. It’s light and breezy, great for summer. It just needs to be paired with a bra to avoid any accidental flashing, because it’s a bit wide in the breast area. I don’t think that can be avoided, it’s just how it’s cut. We see it in the photo and I saw it on myself even though I measured to choose the right size.

While my opinion may seem negative, I did have fun in this dress, especially when the wind was blowing it back. But it would have been even more fun and I could have played with it more had it had more material in the skirt part.

The pros of this Dresslily dress are:

  1. It’s very light and breezy, perfect for a hot summer day
  2. It’s fun when the wind blows.

The cons of this Dresslily dress are:

  1. Doesn’t have as much material as the dress pictured online, so it’s bedsheet-looking sometimes
  2. The shade doesn’t correspond to what’s pictured online, but to what’s written. And I don’t see any visible warnings about this on the dress’s page.

Dresslily Review: Rainbow ombre dress

Dresslily review #2: Rainbow ombre dress with adjustable straps

The full name on Dreslily’s website is Ombre Print Maxi Dress Surplice Plunge Adjustable Shoulder Straps Side Slit Long Dress.

When I saw this rainbow ombre dress, I found it interesting but I had my doubts about the length and if the way the colors fell on my body would make my butt even larger than it already is. So I asked for my husband’s opinion before getting it and he loved it.

When I opened its packaging I immediately loved how soft the material was and how vibrantly colored it looked. It’s visible in my photos that it’s large in the chest area (even when worn with period boobs), but that might be fixed if worn with a bra. Sorry, I didn’t feel like adding one.

It’s a very comfortable dress that I even wore on a short hike to take photos for this Dresslily review. With different shoes than pictured, it allowed me enough freedom of movement to go up and down a cliffside, and that’s excellent in my opinion. It’s close to feeling naked while wearing it and I appreciate that after experiencing the draughty summers in the south of France.

The pros of this Dresslily dress are:

  1. It’s got fun and vibrant colors
  2. It offers excellent freedom of movement.

The cons of this Dresslily dress are:

  1. The ribbon at the waist is just for decoration without really adjusting anything
  2. The dress is too loose in the chest area.

Dresslily’s response

When I received the dresses and after I tried them on, I wrote to Dresslily to tell them my full opinion before publishing a review and this is the answer I got:

“We’re so glad to know that you have received the dress. And you can write on the blog according to your real thoughts and feels. I’m sorry you’re disappointed with our clothes, but our other clothes and styles are great. We may not be able to make every garment perfect for every user at the moment, but we’re always trying our best to do it.”

While I appreciated the fact that the company loves transparency and is okay with me publishing a Dresslily review that isn’t 100% positive, I was disappointed that they couldn’t fulfill their mission statement for all the clothes sold on their website despite having a decade of experience already.

Would I try Dresslily again? Do I recommend it to others?

I would because I ended up with the rainbow ombre dress that I adore and with another long dress that’s comfortable and nice enough to wear to a summer dinner with friends or family (as long as I wear it with a bra).

Dresslily sales are going on all the time and they reward repeat clients, so you can wait for a promotion to shop for the clothes that caught your eye. They get delivered fast around the globe. And, if you try them and they’re not to your liking, you can always send them back and ask for a refund. And if you’re feeling too lazy to contact their Customer Support Center to get your money back, you won’t feel bad about spending too much money on something you won’t use.

So yes, give Dresslily dresses a try, you might end up pleasantly surprised!
